Long while...

Things are going great at work. I am enjoying what I am doing. Patients can sometimes be a little troublesome and mean but I deal with it. Most of them are quite nice and fun to be around.

I have officially delivered two babies. I am sure glad there are doctors who went to school for a long time. They also get paid the big bucks to catch the kids and I don't. Sad :(

Russell get home in less than a year. 315 days exactly. That is super exciting. He is doing well and enjoying the work. He sounds like an awesome missionary.

New job...

The new job is going great! Things work a lot different in Labor and Delivery. There are so many things to remember and do during the labor process. Sometimes I feel like my brain is overflowing with all the information that is being shoved into it, but I am liking it. I will really like it when I am on my own and can do things my own way that still follows what I am supposed to be doing.

Megan and I went ice skating yesterday for a job party. The OBGYNs rented an ice rink for us. We did really well, well Megan did. I fell twice and the second time I really fell. It was one of those falls that hurt my whole body. I am impressed that I am not covered in head to toe bruises because of it. We had a great time!! It is fun to hang out with my sister!

NEW CAR...

I finally received my new car!!!

I have always wanted a Mini Cooper. Then Mini brought the Countryman to the United States and I knew I had to have one. After working for several months and graduating with my BSN, I finally did it. I ordered my care August 6, 2012. Now Mini's are custom cars. They are built in Oxford, England and transported to the Mini dealership. After my car was built it was put on a boat and could track the boat as it crossed the Atlantic Ocean through the Panama canal, and up the Pacific Ocean to a port in California where it was put on a truck and drove to SLC. Now my care was supposed to arrive on October 4; however, it got delayed. Then it was supposed to come the 27, it did not. Finally it arrived the morning of the 29 and John, the dealer, put my care through as numero uno, so I could come pick it up that day. I was able to!

I am so excited! I love it. It has all sorts of buttons, tech savvy, and drives wonderful. I am glad I got my car.

Here is a picture...and I will take more and put more up soon!

P.S It does not look like a clown car! (Heidi)

Update...

Sorry I haven't written in a long time, but there isn't much going on in my life currently.

I am still working and I still enjoy it. It seems that I spend most of my time working and chilling in my apartment.

This past weekend though was great. My family and I went to St. George to go to Tuacahn. We saw Aladdin and Hairspray. Both shows were excellent and we had a great time.

I ordered my car on the 6th and it should start production end of this month or early September. I won't get it till November. Sad:( I am excited and I can't wait.

Job...

I started my new job this week! I have actually liked it. The people I work with are fantastic and so nice! The patients in the nursing home are a hoot. Some of them are not quite with the world and others are just fun to talk too. I never realized how many different medications and how much medications people in nursing homes took. I pass a lot of meds every shift.

This one little lady was put to bed around 7pm and at 9pm she came back out all dressed for the day. She thought it was morning already.

Another lady thinks she is the Relief Society President and she wants all the nurses to get together and have thoughts with each other. She also wants to know all about any ones life. She is great and a fun person to talk to.

It appears that this isn't a bad place to work after all; however, people can't seem to believe I am a RN.

Waiting...

I learned the other day that I am still in the running for quite a few jobs that I have applied for! YIPPEE!!! Hopefully my name will continue on and I will get a call.

School is going great. I mostly just right a bunch of papers. My classes this semester are about Leadership and Nursing Research. I think the research class will be interesting.

Nicole's wedding to Gary is coming up...Mom, Megan, and I went and got our bridesmaid dresses...HOLY LAVENDER!!!! They are nice looking dress but we didn't expect them to be that lavender.

P.S sorry my blog is so boring. Once I get a job it might be more fun and I will also have something to blog about.

Searching...

The job search is still going. I have yet to get one or even get an interview. Hopefully things will be looking up soon! Fingers crossed.

Frustrated...

I know I have been posting about the same thing lately...jobs... but that what is going on in me life currently. I still haven't been able to find a job. I don't have the experience the hospitals are looking for, but I am unable to get the experience. I have applied for over a dozen jobs and nothing has panned out. Hopefully something will happen soon.  I can only take so much down time doing nothing.

Another semester has gone by. It wasn't too difficult. Most of the classes were pretty basic. I actually was able to take some fun classes for the first time! I took a beginning swim class and a culinary class. I bet you are asking yourself why did Kimberly take a beginning swim class. Well dear folks, I could not get into the advanced swim classes without getting beginning and intermediate waved and I had know idea who the teachers were for that class (they weren't listed), so I decided to take the beginning. On the very first day I told the teacher I could swim and that I was a WSI. She then asked me to be her TA. I became the TA and taught the class along side with her. The thing that blew my mind was how much faster adults learned to swim than children! It was amazing! The culinary class was great. I enjoyed the lab portion a lot more than the lecture portion but I had to take both. I kind of knew a little bit because of Megan (go sister!). I know I still have a lot to learn but cooking is fun! I can't wait to make some stuff for my family2

A new semester starts next week, so I have to go up to school for  mtg and then the writing papers begins. Basically I will be a writing machine for the next 3.5 months! Great... I strongly dislike writing papers. Not my forte!!! These two classes are my last. I graduate in July for the last time (unless I go to NP school, still haven't made up my mind about that).

The job search continues...wish me luck!!!

Rejected...

It would appear that I do not have enough experience to get any of the jobs I want. I am starting to think that I may have to move outside Utah and Idaho to get one. Perhaps I shall move back east, I could find one there! I have applied for over a dozen jobs and all I get are rejections emails from their computer systems. I am feeling a little down at the moment. Hopefully, something will happen soon!

My little brother leaves very soon for two whole years! I am sad and happy because he will be gone but he is doing a wonderful thing. Go little brother!!!

School is almost over for the semester. I have only a couple of things to do left for all my classes then I am home free for about a week and then it starts all over again. I only have 8 credits next semester which is only two classes. I am just taking the ones I need to graduate in JULY! That is right people I will have my Bachelor's in Nursing in JULY!!! WOOT WOOT!

Job...

The job search isn't going so well. I have applied for several jobs and nothing has come of it. It seems that I do not have enough experience in the field. Well, that would be true, but no one is giving me the opportunity to get experience. SO FRUSTRATING!!!

Job....

Here goes the job search!

I started to apply for jobs and the first three I applied for I did not get. I do not have enough experience according to all the emails I receive. How I am supposed to get experience if no hospital will let me. I am getting really frustrated! Mom called me and told me to look on Craigslist for other jobs, so I applied for a couple of those and hopefully I will get a call.

Here's wishing!!!

Ear . . .

The epic conclusion the ear saga ends here . . .

My ear is finally better!!! Celebrate!!! Please celebrate with me, come on I know you want to. This is a very important day in the life of Kimberly. It has been 2.5 months since the saga began and it is finally over.

I still have to keep my ear dry for the next month but after that I am free! Which is a good thing because I registered to take a swimming class at school. This swimming class is going to be fun because it is a beginning class and I am not a beginning swimmer. I am looking forward to it. I have wanted to go swimming for quite some time but the ear made it impossible.

No more MD appointments here I come!

Ear . .

The ear saga continues. . .

I went back to Dr. Lee the following Tuesday (October 18) for a follow-up on my ear. He looked inside and said a bunch of crap was still in there. He cleaned it out and put more cream inside and told me to keep it dry still and that he wanted to see me again next week.

I have a really great habit of going to Idaho Falls ever week.

A week went by. . .  my ear feels great! I can't seem to find anything wrong with it. However, I was WRONG!!!!!!!!!

My appointment for October 25, was right after I had a 12 hour clinical night shift. I was super super tired. I had not gotten any sleep in the last 26 hours and I looked the part. Everyone in the office knows me by name now because I have had appointments for the last month and a half. I wasn't in the mood for any bad news about my ear not being better. I never should get my hopes up because it still wasn't better.  Holy Moly! How long can a stinkin' ear infection turned fungal infection last? I mean honestly? what is the deal? Well he cleaned it out again gave me Fluconazole and said see you next week. Gah! Really?

(November 1)Thank heavens my next appointment wasn't right after a clinical. I arrived praying my ear was all better but to my disappointment. . .  it still wasn't. He said we were about 80% of the way there. Now what he put in my ear next was a great surprise to me. He put a chemical the looks a lot like the crystal violet dye in my ear. He said that it would help get rid of the moistness and kill the fungal elements. He also ordered an ear drop to clean all the fungal elements out and see you next week.

This is becoming a habit.

I went on over to Smiths to pick-up the prescription.  Guess what? Smiths did not carry the particular ear drop and said they would have it tomorrow. Now I really didn't want to drive all the way back to Idaho Falls in the morning to pick it back up so I had it transferred to Walmart in Rexburg. However, they did not have it either. Apparently this is not a very popular drug so I had to wait until Wednesday to get it but that was alright with me.

Now because of the purple dye Dr. Lee filled my entire ear canal with, my ear leaked purple everywhere! I was going insane. Purple here purple there. It was never ending!!!

(November 8) I had another all night 12 hour clinical. This clinical didn't make me as sleepy because it was in the ER and there was something to do most of the time. I had a great time listening to all the nurses, especially my preceptor Nick. He was a hoot. I never laughed to hard at clinical in my life. It was great! Sorry off track there for a second. I arrived at Dr. Lee's office 1.5 hours early. I attempted to take a cat nap but it was way to cold to sleep in a car and I even had 2 coats and a blanket and I still froze. Thankfully, Reese (office assistant) gets there about 20 minutes early to open the office. I went inside so I didn't loose any extremities. At 0900 Dr. Lee took a look in my ear and said 90% the way there. Great! I wanted it to 100% of the way there. He told me to keep putting the drops in my ear for the next three days and would like to see me next week.

I honestly don't know what the office will do without me coming every week.

The saga will continue next week . . .

Ear. . .

I have been a swimmer all my life. . . never once in my life have I got an ear infection or swimmer's ear.

My family and I went to Bear Lake the end of August for family fun before everyone went back to school and work. We had a great time. Then on Sunday after family pictures my left ear really started to hurt and I was having trouble hearing out of the left ear too.. Mom set an appointment with Dr. Dawson to get it look at.

Dr. Dawson looked at it and declared it a double ear infection. Which means I had an infection behind my ear drum and in front of it too. Fun!  He prescribed a oral antibiotic call Zithromax. Hopefully, this will fix it.

WRONG!!!

The pain started to get worse and worse. I couldn't do anything without being in pain. I stayed up most nights because my ear hurt too bad to sleep and advil wasn't helping at all. So after two days of this Mom called Dr. Dawson and I was prescribed an numbing ear drop. That was heavenly, it didn't take the pain away completely but it got ride of it enough that I could actually sleep. I slept like a rock that night until Mom woke me up when she got home from work to put more in.

After about a week my ear still didn't feel a whole lot better so off to Dr. Dawson again. He took a culture of my ear, cleaned it out, and gave my another PO antibiotic called Ciprofolaxcin. Hopefully, this will fix it. I went back up to school hoping that I wouldn't need to go see a doctor but. . .

WRONG!!!

The ear still wasn't better so Dad found me a ENT doctor in Idaho Falls that took the insurance. Dr. Lee took a look at my ear and said yep it was infected still (this was the 20th of September). Great just what I needed. So Dr. Lee prescribed me Floxcin (ear drop) for seven days and that should clear the problem up. I was also told not to get any water in my left ear, I have to cover a cotton ball with Vaseline and stick it in my ear when I wanted to shower. That was incredibly gross.

I finished the antibiotics and my ear felt great... then three days after the medication was finished my ear started to hurt again and it started to itch. So did the antibiotics work?

WRONG!!!

I called back and got another appointment for October 11. He looked right at my ear and could tell that it wasn't better. I was not surprised one bit of course it wouldn't be better just knowing my luck. He cleaned it out with suction and said that the bacterial infection in my ear has turned into a fungal infection.

Now I know what you are thinking how does a bacteria turn into a fungus? Well my friends if a bacterial infection goes on for a extended period of time it mutates into fungus. Brilliant huh?

So now I have this cream that I have to stick in my ear twice a day for three days and if it doesn't feel better by Friday I have to call back and see Dr. Lee again that day, but if it does I have a follow up on Tuesday.

That is the adventure of my left ear for the entire month of September and half of October. I just want it to be gone by my birthday. I would really like to be pain free, drainage free, and be able to hear again.

NICU. . .

Yesterday I had my first clinical for the BSN program. I went to the NICU.
I was a little nervous because I didn't think the nurses would want some student nurse following them around all day asking questions and asking to do all sorts of things, but I was wrong my nurses were wonderful and they let me do all sorts of stuff.
I fed babies both bottle and gavage style. I did assessments and I held quite a few babies. Babies are so smart. They figured out that if they cry enough a  nurse will pick them up and hold them, sure enough we do.
Mom says that after my four clinicals that I have, I should know if that is what I want to do for the rest of my life. That day went pretty well, hopefully next time there will be more babies and perhaps a couple of admits I can help with. I will just have to wait and see.
