Exams. . .

The Nursing program has a test all 4th semesters take called the Diagnostic (exit) Exam. This test is a Kaplan test, which is how the NCLEX is set up. The scores that are required to pass these exams are low but, if a person gets the scores he/she is competent, according to Kaplan.

The passing score for this exam was a 65%. I thought I could do that. I sat in the testing center for 2 hours and 50 minutes taking a 180 question test. I thought it was going to be the death of me. Around question 120 my brain was turning to mush. I finished the exam and saw my score. . . I was in a state of shock. . . brace yourselves . . . 64%. I was like are you kidding me. . . really? I was entirely upset. Two stinking questions separated me from a 65%.

The following week Monday-Wednesday I spent approx. 6 hours with my entire class doing Kaplan questions. Those were the longest days of my life. On Thursday morning, the entire class had to take the Readiness exam, which is another Kaplan. This test was deemed to be harder than the Diagnostic, so the passing score was only a 60%. For 2 hours and 37 minutes I sat in the testing center taking it, my score??? . . . 69% I creamed it. I got the highest score in the class! According to Kaplan I have a 98.1 % chance of passing the NCLEX. Which make me feel really good.

Now what was the point of taking these two tests. Well the Nursing program says that a student must pass one or the other in order for the school to post his/her degree. Now if a student doesn't pass it isn't the end for them, he/she just has to do lots of remediation with the department chair. Thank heavens I passed!!!

Only 6 more days!!! and four more tests!!!

Almost. . .

I only have 9 more days until I graduate with my Associates in Nursing!!! I am so very excited.

The only downfall is now I have to take the NCLEX.

I got into the Bachelor's of Nursing program at my school. I will be coming back up in the Fall for another 3 semesters of school. But I will be a RN!

Almost done!!!

Random. . .

Let me tell you... the ICU was awesome, except for the part that my patients were very very sick. I felt kind of bad for them. I never ever want to be in a ICU.

The ICU is completely different from a regular hospital floor. I would rather be in the ICU than a floor. Even though the work never stops and I hardly every got the chance to sit down, I would rather work there than the floor. Too bad I get to only go there once. :(

School is going... as good as can be expected. I actually like 4th semester. I have no idea why the previous semesters say it was hard and that the teachers were mean. Yes, there is a lot of studying and busy work, but the teachers are hilarious. I enjoy going to class everyday.

Only 51 days till I graduate I believe. Wow, almost done.

I applied for the BSN program. Hopefully, I will get in and been done within a year. Then perhaps there will be more nursing jobs available. Let's hope!

My little brother is no longer a high schooler. Wow, all my siblings are grown-up. I cannot believe it. Just crazy!

Last semester . . .

So I am officially in my last semester of nursing!!! YIPPEE!!!
However, according to the previous semesters students, this semester is the hardest. Oh man, why nursing gods do you curse me like this?
So yesterday I spent 14 hours at a clinical orientation. 14 hours people, I was bored stiff out of my mind. . . why spend 14 hours doing something when it could actually be accomplished in 3 or 4 hours. I would have preferred that instead (as would the rest of my class).
So my schedule for this semester is as follows:
Monday
1245-1445 Microbiology Lab
Tuesday 0600-1200 Clinical
Wednesday
0745-0945 Nursing
1900-2100 Old Testament
Thursday
0600-1800 Clinical
Friday
0745-0945 Nursing
1000-1100 Nursing
Saturday
Homework
Sunday
Day of Rest
Now I know that does not seem life a lot but I also work Wednesday's and Friday's from 1400-1700. I also have one online class which is Medical terminology (which should be really easy for me, hopefully:
Clinicals this semester are Orthopedics, Cardiac, and Medical/Surgical (which I cannot stand). I also get to go to would care, angio, and cath lab. Hopefully I will enjoy these clinicals, because I am not to fond of taking care of people that talk back to me, which is why I love the babies!
I will keep you updated!

Fun...

I had an adventure tonight!

My roommate decided to flush a toilet bowl with no water in it . . . and guess what happened . . .

It started to over flow, it kept going and going and going . . . soon water was on the floor every where . . . all the way to the hall way door. She asked me to call my dad, but I was like he is probably in bed, so she called her mom. We were told to plunge the toilet, but Carolyn did not know how to do it, so I had the privilege of doing it. Ya, standing in water the came from a toilet. Just what I wanted to do at 11:30 pm.

I fixed it!

But there was still water on the floor . . . gross

So that was my adventure for tonight

Almost...

So only 3 more weeks, then a week and a half off, then four months, and I graduate!!!

If only it were that easy. I have been told by many Fourth semesters that the Fourth semester is the hardest. Great! Just what I need another hard semester, but luckily I will have more spare time next semester, so I will be able to study my brains out more.

So my little brother got Stud 2 in Mr. Box Elder. It was actually quite an entertaining show, I laughed really hard plus I got to wear my really cool shirt made just for him.

Well, I will be posting my next semester schedule later. . . just wait. . . it is brilliant!
